Tech#file - Blow dry

Blow dry techniques

The proper blow drying technique is gentle on your hair and leaves the hair with plenty of bounce and lustre. Above all, it is important to use the right kind of blow dryer; you should be able to adjust the temperature and the air stream. The hair structure may be damaged if you blow dry hair too long or use the high-temperature setting. Th results may be dry, brittle hair with split ends and an irritated scalp. These styling aids help you dry your hair safely and accurately by using heat protection spray, a paddle brush, a diffuser attachment for your blow dryer and few sectioning hair clips.

1. If at all possible, don't use high heat settings of your blow-dryer. The air stream should feel comfortable on the back of your hand.
2. Keep your distance, maintain the hair dryer at least 8 inches away from your hair.
3.If your hair is beautiful, you should set the air stream to low. Otherwise, you may end up with tangles in your hair.
4. Blow dry every individual hair strand from the roots to the ends. This technique provides smooth cuticle layers, which are the basis for healthy, shiny and well-protected hair.
5. You should keep the blow dryer constantly moving to avoid applying too much heat in a single spot. Dividing the hair into several portions and securing the strands with large clips or grips. Blow drying hair from neckline to the crown of your head so that you don't hit the same strand of hair multiple times.
6. Always use heat protection spray, this product help prevents blow drying damage.
7. Do not to blow dry hair immediately after shampooing, allow hair first to dry for 15 min under a towel turban, but if you must first take 80 % off of the hair then blow dry.
8. The diffuser attached to your blow dryer spreads out a more even air stream.
9. Once you are finish blow drying hair, briefly apply a flow of cold air. This cooling step gives your hair more elasticity.
10. If you were using a round brush and wanted to keep, curled ends use a clip or grip by rolled them and pin them to the scalp, to achieve more flat and silky hair use paddle brush.

                                                                   My work

My model Vicky has medium length, thick, straight, dark and healthy looking hair. First, I washed her hair using a shampoo and conditioner, I only washed once and put them into towel turban to let them dry. In this time, Vicky washed my hair. Next step by using a comb, brushed them and divided into few section.

Then I split hair into the small part; I started to blow dry from the bottom of the head, by using a round brush to curl the ends and clipped to the scalp, always when you were taking the brush off use a circles motion to keep the curls.

Half of Vicky's hair I blew dry by using a round brush, we had to swap so I didn't have much time to do it all so I used the paddle brush and dry them, made them more straight and silky finish. This photo shows how looks after my blow dry.

  • Vicky's hair looks soft and shiny. Professional dryer its quite thick so I need it practise. Below I attached video how to blow properly dry your hair.

Tech#file- Dewy make-up vs Matte

How to create the dewy skin

Gone are the days of heavily matte skin instead gorgeous, glowy skin is the ultimate focus and thanks to this trend, there are hundreds of products on the market that can give you beautiful Victoria Secret skin. Those with oily, don't have to fret because you can still rock the luminous look.

Finishes, M. (2014). Blog | Steph Mac Makeup Artist: Matte VS Dewy Finishes. [online] Stephmacmakeup.blogspot.co.uk. Available at: http://stephmacmakeup.blogspot.co.uk/2014/01/matte-vs-dewy-finishes.html [Accessed 27 Apr. 2016].

If your skin is super lacklustre try a whole skincare line dedicated to giving you a healthy glow, otherwise a serum, which is designed to brighten your skin will suffice. Don't use a moisturiser, instead, just use a small amount of facial serum to prepare your skin. Not only will make-up last longer, but your skin will also look fresh. Follow with an illuminating primer that will reflect light to set the perfect base for your make-up.

The Foundation- if you have oily skin and want to avoid looking greasy, then sticking with your foundation is a must. Mix a drop the of the liquid illuminator in with your foundation and then apply. The illuminator will reflect light, making your skin look healthy, not greasy.

The Highlighter-  a creamy illuminator patted onto the highest points of your face will give you ultimate structure and a gorgeous glow, plus it looks amazing on all skin types and tones.

The Powder- powder can look cakey and unnatural so either ditch it altogether or keep it strictly on the t-zone ( the forehead, nose and chin ). If you can't bear to ditch the powder set your make-up with a radiance enhancing setting powder. Never apply any liquid/cream based illuminators, blusher, bronzer on the top of powders, they will look muddy.

My work

Dewy makeup

Well, from the beginning, definitely I didn't start like I suppose to and I made a lot of mistakes. Describes Vicky's skin belong to combination with dark circles under eyes and acne. So I started with primer prepare skin, before putting any foundation. I should use liquid or cream foundation, not the stick one or use that one mixed with drop an of an illuminator.

I the used small soft brush a started cover any blemishes or dark points, by using green concealer. For dark circles first, I used orange colour to cover very well dark circles, then yellow tone concealer and using my finger gently dabbed onto the skin. Next point foundation, like I said before I should use liquid or cream, not the matt foundation or either mix the with illuminator. By using a foundation brush applied and blended very well onto the skin. Filled and gaps in Vicky's eyebrows and defined them with granite colour.

I think I shouldn't use the setting powder because skin looks more matte than dewy. I used my highlighter patted onto the highest point of chicks, cubic bow, the under eyebrow, on the nose. A lit bit of bronzer to defined girls and blusher for healthy looking skin. So, that my final results. Like I said before I made a lot of mistakes.

How to create matte skin

Keeping your skin from looking like an oil-slick during the summer months is not the easy task. We carry blotter sheets and pressed powder, but still suffer from shiny T-zone. To keep the matte trend modern and fresh, make sure the rest of the face has some glow or dewiness, this keeps the face from looking dull and two-dimensional, and helps to highlight the matte feature.

Matte makeup makes your skin look virtually pore-less. Foundations, eye shadows and lipsticks that are formulating with mattifying powders eliminate shine and leave behind a silky, powdery finish.

Putting product onto skin that isn't clean or hydrated often leads to that dreaded "caked-on" look. And if your skin is on the oily side, cautions against using lotions that aren't oil-free to moisturise.Using a primer, which is often on the matte, silky side, also helps to smooth out skin and make foundation go on easier.
Once you've prepared your skin, you are ready for the actual matte make-up. Well, better to use a foundation brush to achieve medium-to-full coverage and a damp sponge to blend around the hairline, jaw and the neck- the technique that minimises heaviness.

A light shimmer on the eyes as a highlighter makes it a little more modern. Use a creamier shadow give your complexion life or complete the look with a lip gloss or creamy lipstick.

                                              My work

Matt make-up

My model Vicky has combination skin type with acne and dark circles under eyes. So I started to apply a primer before I put any concealer. Using a small soft brush and a small amount of light green concealer to cover any redness and acne.

For dark circles, I used orange concealer blended with two shades brighter concealer then foundation and using my finger blended onto the skin. Also, I used yellow tone concealer for any points on Vicky's face to lighten the skin, make more radiant. Next, I chose appropriate foundation shade and applied onto the surface by the using foundation brush.

As you can see, I didn't use enough concealer to cover Vicky's dark circles. I set up with translucent powder. I use my brow kit to defined and fills any gaps in Vicky's eyebrows, granite colours, using the eyeliner brush. To get more defined chicks I used bronzer, not much only a bit of bit and blended onto the skin. A little bit of blush to achieved healthy looking, skin, not dull effect.
